Bio

Although Chris is a native of Georgia and born in Atlanta, his father’s military career took him all over the world. Chris grew up mostly overseas and returned to the U.S. after graduating from High School. He attend the School of Music at Houghton College in Western New York and received his Bachelor's of Music Education degree in 1984.

He began his music career teaching K-8 General Music and High School Chorus at Montrose Christian School in Rockville, Maryland, where he began acquiring private piano students in the after-school hours. Chris has maintained a private studio from that point on and has now been teaching piano and voice lessons for 36 years.

In addition to teaching private lessons, Chris has had 11 years of school teaching experience at both private and public schools in Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Pennsylvania, and has taught courses in Fundamentals of Music at Northampton Community College in Pennsylvania.

During his time living in the beautiful Pocono Mountains of Northeastern Pennsylvania, he spent nine years as the staff accompanist for the vocal department at East Stroudsburg University. He played piano for the University Chorus, the Pop-Jazz Singers ensemble, and accompanied private voice lessons, recitals, and end-of-semester voice adjudications.

Throughout his musical career, Chris has been consistently involved in the music programs at the various churches that he has attended, and from 2013-2019 was the Director of Music at Berean Bible Fellowship Church in Stroudsburg, PA. Additionally, Chris has training as a Para-Professional, dealing with students with both academic and behavioral IEP's, and has been assigned in that capacity to students with behavioral issues in the past.

While Chris focuses his teaching philosophy around adhering to the fundamentals of piano technique and theory, he encourages students to learn supplemental repertoire from various genres to help them appreciate the different styles of music that surround them. His students are taught not only to read music in traditional form, but also to become comfortable with reading from chord charts and Fakebooks, which is generally the form used by modern church praise teams. This helps pave the way for students to get involved in their own church music programs and adds another avenue of worship and ministry for the student.

After decades living away from his native home in Georgia, Chris is happy to be back and loves to see God unfold the path He has planned for him at
