Dr. Kelly Francis moved to Cobb County in August 2009. A native of Ottawa, Canada, she is excited to be teaching piano and music theory at
The Harmony House.
Kelly studied at the University of Ottawa in Canada where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Music and a master’s degree in Music Theory. She completed her PhD in Music Theory from the Eastman School of Music in 2011. Her research interests include the study of rhythm and meter in Bach’s music and the study of music perception.
Over the past several years, Kelly has taught music theory at the Eastman School of Music, the Eastman Community Music School, and the Hochstein School of Music and Dance in Rochester, New York. She won the Jack L. Frank Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2008. She has also taught piano for the last few years, most recently at the LSU Music Academy in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Kelly enjoys teaching students of all ages and looks forward to new performance opportunities in the area.
Kelly was named Teacher of the Year for 2015-16, 2016-17, 2018-19, 2019-20, and 2020-2021 at The Harmony House. In addition, Kelly's two students, Hayden B. and Abigail B., received the highest score in 2022-23 in the state of Georgia in the Royal Conservatory of Music.
